Nowhere to put your sunbed

Wirral’s Hoylake Beach is recognised for conservation significance and international importance, yet in recent years, amassed media attention after it came to light the beach was being raked and sprayed with harmful herbicides.

Orders to cease all activity had drastic effects. The habitat changed completely.

Plant species increased tenfold, dividing opinion and community alike, many unhappy residents taking action to see vegetation removed and “golden sands” returned so their children can share the same memories they did.

Nowhere to Put Your Sunbed challenges perceptions of what a beach ‘should’ look like, exploring the beauty we stand to lose if we allow these habitats to be scraped away.
